Introduced in Fall 2020, the Academic Guides program is a Duke Endowment funded initiative of the Office of Undergraduate Education. Members of this team create evidence-based, holistic approaches to student engagement that support students’ academic and emotional well-being and build resilience. Last month I had the opportunity to talk to Duygu Dogrucan, who is a Turkish professor at Duke – and also an active participant in the International House’s English and Spanish Conversation Clubs. After receiving her BA and a MA in Foreign Language Education in Istanbul, Duygu reflected on whether she wanted to seek a PhD, describing this time as a “personal discovery period”. The Freeman Center for Jewish Life, located on Duke’s campus, opened in 1999, providing a home for Jewish Life at Duke and the Rubenstein-Silvers Hillel and for the Duke Jewish community to gather, celebrate, learn, and pray together.
