THE SPOT

Est. 2022

CMA: The Spot’s primary focus is to serve and preserve the history, culture, and experience of Black communities at Duke University. The space works toward providing an inclusive environment for all students. This space was born to create opportunity for the black diaspora to connect in the Bryan University Center.

We uplift the Mary Lou William's Center for Black Culture's framing of the term 'black', as follows:

"Blackness is broad, diverse, and beautiful, and that Black people deserve a space to be authentically liberated."
  • Blackness is not a monolith.
  • The legacy of ancestors should be exalted.
  • Blackness should be celebrated, honored, and affirmed

*We intentionally use "Black" as an inclusive term that embraces all Black-identified people from the Caribbean, the African continent, the Americas, Europe, and all parts of the African diaspora.
