We know you have a lot of needs, large and small. Here, you’ll find a variety of resources that will come in useful for everyday life at Duke. The list below isn't exhaustive of everything in and around Duke. We encourage you to explore your department, campus resources, and the city to take advantage of as much as you can during your time at Duke.

Duke Student Health

Student Health is the primary source for a wide range of healthcare services for all Duke Students, many of which are covered by the student health fee. We are here to provide evidence-based, patient-centered health care to our campus community in a professional and compassionate manner that directly contributes to the student's well-being and overall success.

The services provided by Student Health include student health insurance, nutrition services, physical therapy, immunizations, and others.

Duke Student Health – Student Health Insurance

All international students studying in the U.S. are required to maintain adequate medical insurance during their enrollment at Duke University. International students that will not be studying in the U.S will not be required to enroll in the student health insurance plan or pay the health fee. Contact insurance department if you have any questions regarding insurance requirements.

Duke Student Health – Nutrition Services 

Nutrition counseling is available to all currently enrolled Duke Students and is covered by your Student Health fee at no additional cost.

Duke Student Health – Physical Therapy 

Physical therapy can help with pain anywhere in the body, including acute and chronic injuries, and with return to normal activities post-surgery. The PT visits will be billed to your Duke Student Health insurance as physical therapy services are not included in the Duke Student Health fee.

Duke Student Health – Immunizations 

North Carolina State Law requires that all students entering college present a certificate of immunization that documents that the student has received all immunizations required by law. You must comply with North Carolina laws and Duke requirements.

Duke Student Wellness Center (DuWell) 

DuWell is dedicated to fostering a living/learning environment on campus that encourages the full development of the individual as an engaged member of the community.

Campus Smiles at Duke 

Campus Smiles at Duke is a full-service dental office located inside the Student Wellness Center. Some of the services we offer are same-day emergency visits, fillings, crowns, Invisalign and whitening.

Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) 

CAPS helps Duke Students enhance strengths and develop abilities to successfully live, grow and learn in their personal and academic lives. We offer many services to Duke undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, including brief individual and group counseling, couples counseling and more.

DukeReach

DukeReach provides comprehensive outreach services to identify and support students in managing all aspects of their wellbeing. We provide case management services including coordination, advocacy, referrals, and follow-up services for students who are experiencing significant difficulties related to mental health, physical health, and/or psycho-social adjustment.

Duke Recreation & Physical Education 

Duke Recreation provides diverse recreational opportunities that promote healthy active lifestyles in a safe, inclusive environment.

Academic Resource Center

The Academic Resource Center provides services and resources to support undergraduate students at any point during their academic careers at Duke. Services are free and available to any Duke undergraduate student, in any year, studying in any discipline. The ARC offers learning consultations, peer tutoring, SAGE Learning Communities, and more. Center for Data and Visualization Sciences  

Our mission to partner with faculty, researchers, and students through consultation, instruction, co-curricular programming, and research assistance at various stages of the research data lifecycle. We are located within Duke University Libraries. Our team of consultants and interns offers support in data science, data sources, data management and curation, data visualization, and mapping and GIS (geographic information systems).

Duke Career Center          

The Career Center engages students and alumni in discovering and determining what is meaningful and valuable in their lives and applying this to careers. We provide guidance for exploring the intersection of our students' education, values, goals, skills, and experiences in order to identify and realize their aspirations.

Duke University Libraries           

The William R. Perkins Library, Bostock Library and Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library comprise the main West Campus library complex, which is joined by Lilly and Music libraries on East Campus, the Pearse Memorial Library at the Duke Marine Lab and the separately administered libraries serving the schools of Business, Divinity, Law and Medicine. Together they form one of the nation's top ten private university library systems.

English for International Students (EIS)        

EIS serves Duke’s educational mission by supporting multilingual graduate and professional students in becoming confident, independent users of academic and professional English. The program provides effective, individualized English-language instruction, advising, and assessment centered on students’ dynamic field-specific communication needs.

Innovation Co-Lab       

The Innovation Co-Lab is a creativity incubator, focused on exploring how new and emerging technologies can fundamentally reshape the research, academic, and service missions of the university. Working with our innovation-minded colleagues around campus, we're building a model program that will elevate and inspire members of the Duke Community who are solving problems, big and small, through our ever-changing technological environment. Students are encouraged to take advantage of our technology workshops, grant programs, project support, and makerspace facilities.

Office of Information Technology (OIT)         

OIT manages Duke’s central technology infrastructure and provides IT services including e-mail, WiFi, website development, multimedia and Innovation CoLabs for 3D printing and prototyping, and cybersecurity. OIT supports departments and individuals with a walk-up technology Service Desk, online self-help and technology training.

Student Information System Services

SISS provides support for DukeHub, the portal that allows all members of the Duke Community to access the student information system from a single location.

TWP Writing Studio     

The TWP Writing Studio facilitates writers' critical and creative thought through collaborative, non-evaluative consultations, workshops, writing groups, and events. In all of our work, we actively seek to support diverse, inclusive writing communities. Our highly educated consultants work with you at any stage of the writing process – from brainstorming and researching to drafting, revising, and fine-tuning a final draft.

Religious Life at Duke 

In partnership with the Division of Student Affairs, Duke Chapel convenes, supports, and advocates for all of the officially recognized Religious Life groups on campus that serve students. The Religious Life team of clergy, chaplains, and administrators welcome new students during Orientation Week and offer events throughout the year, including weekly worship opportunities and special events.

As campus staff with an organization known as International Students, Inc., each of us identifies as a follower of the Jesus. iStudentsDuke is an approved religious life group at Duke and an active partner with various University departments, especially Duke's I-house.

      • expand international students' experience by connecting to residents of the Durham area community. Activities such as Supper Club or Holiday Hospitality offer great opportunities for cultural exchange.

Duke Police 

Get information about personal safety and home security. Officers will be on site to engrave your electronic items, including iPads, laptops, MP3, cameras, and bicycles with your Unique ID number (Not iPhones). Information obtained includes the owner’s name, serial number and item engraved and stored in the DUPD database.

Duke University Tobacco-Free Initiative 

As part of our commitment to the Healthy Duke initiative and to creating a healthy living and working environment, Duke is adopting a new policy to become tobacco-free on all property and grounds owned and leased by Duke University beginning July 1, 2020. The policy prohibits the use of all tobacco-based products, including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, hookahs, chewing tobacco, snuff, and electronic smoking devices such as e-cigarettes, vaping products, and IQOS.

Sustainable Duke is charged with leading Duke University to its 2024 Carbon Neutrality goal. Our office aims to educate and empower the Duke community to create a more sustainable future through social, economic, and environmental change on our campus and beyond. Our central office focuses on education, outreach, emission reduction, collaborative partnerships, and enabling Duke to train future leaders who are ready to tackle the current and future challenges of the climate crisis. The Duke Carbon Offsets Initiative, one of the first University-based offset groups in the country, assists the University to become a model carbon neutral institution and to lead peer institutions in their efforts to become carbon neutral. The Duke Campus farm provides an engaging hands-on-learning opportunity to help catalyze positive change in the food system.
