Andorra is a European country on the southern peaks of the Pyrenees Mountains, bounded by France and Spain.

 

Symbols on the Flag

In 1278, the bishop of Urgel (now in Spain) and the count of Foix (now in France) had joint jurisdiction over Andorra. Therefore, the flag incorporates symbols from both countries.

Geography

Andorra consists of a cluster of mountain valleys whose streams unite to form the Valira River. The valley was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.

Xavier Espot Zamora is Andorra’s current Prime Minister and has served since 2019.

Hocine Haciane is Andorra’s most famous swimmer. He was the flag bearer at multiple Olympic games.

In Andorra, snails are often oven-roasted and eaten with olive oil, salt and aioli or a paprika-infused vinaigrette. The people of Andorra celebrate their National Day, September 8th, by honoring their patron saint, Our Lady of Meritxell.
