Graduate & Professional Student Services is proud to highlight a few graduate students and groups that make up Duke’s community. These nominations have come from Duke faculty and staff who wish to celebrate the wonderful work that these students are doing to enhance life at Duke and beyond.

“Brooke Schroeder became involved with the “America Reads, America Counts” tutoring program during Fall 2023 and quickly assumed a leadership position. For over a year now, she has worked hand-in-hand with the Duke Community Affair’s Education team to recruit, organize, and support medical students volunteering at local Durham schools. Thanks in large part to Brooke’s leadership and vision, several hundred tutor volunteer hours have been accumulated teaching Durham’s youth!” – EL

Duke Aviators Graduate Group:

“Duke University’s first dedicated aviation interest organization, dedicated to sharing the spirit of flight with the greater Duke Community. The purpose of this organization is to educate Duke students on the process of becoming a private pilot, prepare students for the FAA Private Pilot written exam, and introduce students to various careers in the aviation industry.” – SL

BOOST Beyond

BOOST Beyond:

“BOOST Beyond is a student-driven mentorship program designed to help students plan and accomplish their post-high school goals. As such, BOOST Beyond is open to any high school junior or senior who has been enrolled in a BOOST program for at least one year. Once accepted as mentees in BOOST Beyond, students work closely with two graduate student mentors over the course of a year, meeting for at least one hour a month. In the process, participating graduate and professional students gain access to formal mentorship training workshops as well as hands-on mentorship experience, with special attention towards upholding justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) values.” – SL

“Oceans@Duke is an interdisciplinary community of faculty and students at Duke University working at the intersections of ocean science, governance, and business to promote ocean sustainability. We enable faculty and students across Duke University to collaborate with current faculty and representation from the Nicholas School of the Environment, the Fuqua School of Business, the Duke School of Law, the Sanford School of Public Policy, the Duke School of Medicine, the Pratt School of Engineering, the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions, and Duke Kunshan University in Kunshan, China.” – SL

Duke Technology Policy Club:
