Get Involved

Getting involved as a first-year student is a great way to meet new people, develop skills, and make the most of your college experience. You can explore student organizations, attend campus events, join academic or social clubs, and participate in volunteer opportunities. Getting involved early helps you build connections, discover new interests, and feel more at home on campus. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something new!

The East Campus Council (ECC) is a group of selected student officers and representatives from across East Campus communities. As the first-year programing council and student advocates for East Campus, ECC works alongside the individual East Campus House Councils to make sure your residential experience is the best it can be.

ECC’s goal is to enhance campus life by providing support and direction through active leadership and community involvement. They host awesome events throughout the year, from movie nights and viewing parties for Duke Basketball to the annual Bricks to Stone Party and Midnight Breakfast. They also make sure that campus is a safe, educational, and enjoyable experience for everyone by advocating for first-year needs and making sure that your voices are heard.

East Campus Council interviews will occur at the same time as House Council interviews. Information about applying for ECC will be sent to you before August!

Devils After Dark (DAD) is the premier first-year programming experience for Duke University, facilitated by Residence Life and informed by a Student Programming Board made up of select first-year and upper-class students. The mission of DAD is three-pronged in that DAD aims to enhance the first-year experience through consistent late-night, weekend programs that take place on each weekend of the academic year. Some signature DAD events include "The Return," "De-Stress Pinterest Palooza," and "Devils in the Daylight." DAD helps to coordinate many other large-scale first-year events, including the East Campus Carnival and festivities on First Day of Classes (FDOC) and Last Day of Classes (LDOC). If you are interested in joining the DAD Student Programming Board to learn how to plan and execute programs on a campus-wide scale and to contribute to a memorable and fun first-year experience for yourselves and your peers, our recruitment and selections timeline runs parallel to the House Council recruitment and selections timeline in August.
