Getting involved as a first-year student is a great way to meet new people, develop skills, and make the most of your college experience. You can explore student organizations, attend campus events, join academic or social clubs, and participate in volunteer opportunities. Getting involved early helps you build connections, discover new interests, and feel more at home on campus. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something new!
Devils After Dark (DAD) is the premier first-year programming experience for Duke University, facilitated by Residence Life and informed by a Student Programming Board made up of select first-year and upper-class students. The mission of DAD is three-pronged in that DAD aims to enhance the first-year experience through consistent late-night, weekend programs that take place on each weekend of the academic year. Some signature DAD events include "The Return," "De-Stress Pinterest Palooza," and "Devils in the Daylight." DAD helps to coordinate many other large-scale first-year events, including the East Campus Carnival and festivities on First Day of Classes (FDOC) and Last Day of Classes (LDOC). If you are interested in joining the DAD Student Programming Board to learn how to plan and execute programs on a campus-wide scale and to contribute to a memorable and fun first-year experience for yourselves and your peers, our recruitment and selections timeline runs parallel to the House Council recruitment and selections timeline in August.
