Spring Break is a time to recharge, stay safe and take care of yourself. Whether you’re traveling or staying on campus, prioritize rest, hydration, and smart choices. If you’re staying local, campus resources are still open and available to support you, including all of our Wellness Services. To stay safe and healthy during your break, don’t forget these tips:
- If you’re driving to your destination, be sure to allow time for rest and try to minimize driving at night. If you can’t avoid nighttime driving, be sure someone stays awake to talk to the driver.
- For international travel, be sure to review travel advisories before you go and be sure your emergency contacts have a copy of your travel itinerary and that you have a reliable way to contact them. Be sure you’ve checked with your phone carrier if you’re going out of country.
- Be prepared and pack a travel kit with things like any prescriptions medications you may have as well as over the counter medications, band aids, sunscreen, and safe sex supplies. Don’t forget condoms are available at no cost at the Wellness Center.
- Use the buddy system. It’s best to always have a friend with you, but be sure a friend knows where you are and when to expect you back if you are separated.
- Don’t forget about things that can impact your alcohol consumption like sun and heat, hot tubs, and whether you’ve recently had a meal. Always get your drinks directly from a bartender or person you know and trust.
- Any time there are large crowds gathering, there can be an increase in potential exposure to illness. Use good health prevention techniques, including frequent hand-washing, to minimize your risk of getting sick during or after break.
- Take advantage of the downtime and prioritize self-care.
Enjoy your break and come back rested, refreshed, and well.
