Q. What other events are happening on Move-In Day?
A. Students’ focus for Move-In Day should be unpacking and getting settled into your new space. Durham has many stores if you need to purchase other things. Lunch options include off-campus recommendations on 9th street, Erwin, and many on-campus locations will be available for purchase. The Family Farewell (see below) then begins at 6:30pm in Penn Pavilion. Even if you don’t have family assistance moving in, all students are invited to the welcome dinner!
Q. What is the Family Farewell?
A. Starting at 6:30pm, all families and students will be encouraged to attend the Family Farewell Celebration, which will kick off with dinner in Penn Pavilion. The goal of this event is for families and students to meet one another & for Duke administrators to socialize with families and students. The Family Farewell is the kickoff to Orientation, and it’s strongly encouraged for families to say their goodbyes and to head home the next day.
Q. When can I expect more information about Move-In Day?
A. Move-In Day is one of the most exciting days of the year at Duke and we want you to be prepared. You should have received an email on Aug 7 with information about your move in day from HRL. The Office of New Student and Family Programs (NSFP) will continue to update this FAQ sheet and provide more specific details as Move-In Day approaches using our Weekly Transfer Digests and Family Newsletters. On August 9th at 7pm, NSFP will host a webinar specifically about Move-In Day and Project Transfer to answer all of your questions.
