2024 Grad/Prof Student Day Experience – #1 Scavenger Hunt & Brewery

As an extension to our 2024 Summer Transition Series webinar sessions, Graduate and Professional Student Services is excited to announce six immersive in-person Day Experiences!

Day Experiences are designed:

  • For first-year incoming Graduate and Professional students at Duke University.
  • To foster a sense of belonging for graduate and professional students with Duke University in addition to unique academic programs.
  • To facilitate a pathway for students to build interdepartmental connections with other graduate and professional students at Duke.

Enjoy an event in Downtown Durham with fellow incoming Duke Graduate and Professional students, with a scavenger hunt and a visit to Fullsteam Brewery!

Tentative Itinerary*:

Thursday, July 18, 2024

  • 4:30 PM:
  • 5:00 PM:
    • Depart from the Science Drive bus stop.
  • 5:30 PM:
    • Arrive at Fullsteam Brewery for Downtown drop-off.
  • 5:45 – 6:45 PM:
    • Scavenger hunt through Downtown Durham.
  • 6:45 – 8:00 PM:
    • Free time to explore. DISC will provide a ticket for either an appetizer or a drink at Fullsteam Brewery.
  • 8:00 PM onwards:
    • 1. DISC transportation back to Science bus stop, or
    • 2. Trivia Night hosted by Fullsteam Brewery. Participants who stay for trivia must arrange their own transportation back home.

Additional information:

  • There is no cost to attend. The scavenger hunt and ticket for an appetizer or drink are all free.
  • This is an in-person activity. Please only register if you can be in Durham, NC, on July 18,  2024. Space is limited.
  • Participants should wear supportive walking shoes, deodorant, and breathable clothing for the scavenger hunt.
  • Carry and wear sunscreen. Bring other sun protection like sunglasses or a wide-brimmed hat. Afternoons during the summer can be very hot (32°C-38°C).
  • Stay hydrated! A water bottle with a shoulder strap is a good idea.

Communication Timeline: 

  • July 7: Registration form will close.
  • July 9: Selected students will be notified (a waitlist will also be maintained).
  • July 12: Confirmation and waiver collection by students will close.
  • July 12: Waitlist students will be notified.
  • July 18: Downtown Durham Scavenger Hunt!
