The Division of Student Affairs is pleased to announce the appointments of Steve Harrison as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs Resource Administration and Dr. Dawna Jones as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students. Together, these appointments represent an important milestone in the continued evolution of Student Affairs as Duke invests in an exceptional student experience for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
Steve joins Duke on August 10 following more than two decades of leadership in higher education administration, most recently serving as Vice President for Auxiliary Enterprises and Chief Sustainability Officer at Coastal Carolina University. In his new role, Steve will provide strategic leadership for Student Affairs operations, including facilities management, housing operations, human resources, financial administration, sustainability initiatives, and auxiliary services, helping ensure the systems that support students remain innovative, collaborative, and responsive.
Dawna, who has served Duke since 2021 and currently serves as Assistant Vice President for Identity Centers and Community Development, will transition into her new role in September. As Associate Vice President and Dean of Students, she will provide strategic leadership for one of Duke’s most important student-facing portfolios, partnering with students, faculty, and campus leaders to strengthen student wellbeing, engagement, leadership development, and the continued evolution of QuadEx while expanding support for graduate and professional students.
Dawna and Steve each bring exceptional leadership, deep expertise, and a collaborative spirit that will strengthen Student Affairs and the partnerships that support our students. Together, they will help us build an even stronger student experience while ensuring our operations and services continue to meet the evolving needs of the Duke community.
