2024 Grad/Prof Student Day Experience – #3 Downtown Tour & Durham Bulls Baseball Game

As an extension to our 2024 Summer Transition Series webinar sessions, Graduate and Professional Student Services is excited to announce six immersive in-person Day Experiences!
Day Experiences are designed:
- For first-year incoming Graduate and Professional students at Duke University.
- To foster a sense of belonging for graduate and professional students with Duke University in addition to unique academic programs.
- To facilitate a pathway for students to build interdepartmental connections with other graduate and professional students at Duke.
The Office of Off-Campus & Community Life brings you a fun two-part activity; “Discover Downtown Durham.” Learn more about your new hometown with a tour of downtown Durham. Afterward, take in the excitement of a Durham Bulls baseball game.
Tentative Itinerary*:
Tuesday, August 13, 2024
- 4:30 PM:
- Meet in downtown Durham at Pour Taproom
- Address: 202 Corcoran St #200, Durham, NC 27701 (map)
- Meet in downtown Durham at Pour Taproom
- 4:30 – 5:30 PM:
- Meet fellow participants; introduction to Durham, North Carolina.
- 5:30 – 6:15 PM:
- Tour of downtown Durham. Distribution of baseball tickets.
- 6:30 – 10:00 PM:
- Durham Bulls baseball game.
Overview:
- Our time starts with a tour to learn about all downtown Durham has to offer, from food to music to history and culture. Get to know Durham’s main attractions and hidden gems right when you arrive!
- The main event will be attending a Durham Bulls baseball game right in the heart of downtown Durham.
- Did you know?!? The Durham Bulls were featured in one of the US’ most famous sports movies ever. Get a head start by watching the film about Durham’s famous baseball team before you arrive.

Additional information:
- There is no cost to attend. The tour, baseball game, and food & beverages are all free.
- This is an in-person activity. Please only register if you can be in Durham, NC, on August 13, 2024. Space is limited.
- Participants should wear supportive walking shoes, deodorant, and breathable clothing for the tour of downtown Durham.
- Carry and wear sunscreen. Bring other sun protection like sunglasses or a wide-brimmed hat. Afternoons during the summer can be very hot (32°C-38°C).
- Stay hydrated! A water bottle with a shoulder strap is a good idea.
Communication Timeline:
- July 29: Registration form will close.
- August 5: Selected students will be notified (a waitlist will also be maintained).
- August 8: Confirmation and waiver collection by students will close.
- August 9: Waitlist students will be notified.
- August 13: Discover Downtown Durham!
