To give you more information about the RA/CA roles, the Residence Life team is hosting virtual interest sessions. 

Virtual Interest Sessions  

There are a few opportunities to join a virtual interest session in the Fall 2025 semester. These sessions are hosted over Zoom and are geared towards giving an overview of basic requirements of the RA and/or CA role for applicants to consider while they apply. Dates and times for these interest sessions will be updated on this page once available. 

Position Descriptions

Resident Assistant (RA)

Resident Assistants (RAs) are undergraduate and graduate students who plan programs, serve on-call in their areas, and support residents in our East Campus and West Campus residential communities. 

Functional Program Assistants (FPA)

Functional Program Assistants (FPAs) are graduate student leaders who focus on a particular functional area within the Residence Life department rather than working within a particular residential community like other Program Assistants. The FPA positions include Student Leadership, Recruitment and Selection, Learning and Development, and First Year Programming. FPAs serve within the graduate assistant on-call rotation. 

Assistant Residence Coordinators (ARC)

Assistant Residence Coordinators (ARCs) are graduate student leaders who supervise a Resident Assistant or Community Assistant team and oversee a residential area. ARCs serve within the graduate assistant on-call rotation. 

Community Assistant (CA)

Community Assistants (CAs) are undergraduate and graduate students who plan programs, serve on-call in their areas, and support the living experience of our Apartment & Suite communities. 

Residential Program Assistants (PA)

Residential Program Assistants (also called “Program Assistants” or “PAs”) are graduate student leaders who support a residential area by advising House and/or Quad Councils and assisting with all community programming. PAs serve within the graduate assistant on-call rotation.
