Duke offers two distinct summer options for undergraduate students: Duke Summer Session and Duke Summer Experiences. Each program offers unique opportunities for undergraduate students. On-campus housing is available for both options.
PLEASE NOTE: Students are NOT required to live on campus if enrolled in summer courses or summer experiences.
Summer housing is for students who need housing during the summer session (May 14 - August 12). Applications will be approved for the following reasons:
- Enrolled in Summer Session 1 class(es)
- Enrolled in Summer Session 2 class(es)
- Enrolled in Summer Sessions 1 & 2 classes
- Post season athlete
- International student
- DKU
- +Program (History, Arts, or I&E)
- Conference and Event Services bridge housing (May 14 - May 19)(Data+, Code+, CS+, Climate+, Applied Ethics+, or Math+)
The daily rate per person is:
- Single - $54.41 approx $2,449 per term
- Double - $41.17 approx $1,853 per term
Students approved to stay in summer housing will be housed in either Edens, Epworth or Keohane based upon their program participation.
Housing Dates
Session 1 Move In = Tuesday, May 14
Session 1 Move Out = Friday, June 28
Session 2 Move In = Sunday, June 30
Session 2 Move Out = Monday, August 12
Extension housing will be available for students who need to stay in residence as they transition to summer programs/school.
Housing extension application will be available via the housing portal in April.
Extension Dates: May 6 - May 14th
Summer Session gives current undergraduates and incoming transfer students a way to catch up on their courses, focus on more difficult classes, or jump ahead in their studies so they can engage in other programs like Study Abroad.
The program is also available for graduating Duke seniors, Duke alumni and Duke employees who want to continue their education.
Registration for Duke Students opens in DukeHub on Monday, February 19.
Term 1, 2024 - May 15 - June 27
Term 2, 2024 - July 1 - August 11
All summer session students living on campus will be required to have a meal plan.
All students living on campus are required to purchase a meal plan. Please note that indoor dining and dining capacities for summer will be based on current local, state, and University guidelines. There will be outdoor seating throughout the campus for students to utilize. More information can be found at the Duke Dining website, including venue locations and hours.
- Small $855.98 (1 to 2 meals and/or snacks per day)
- Medium $1,201.05 (2 meals and snacks per day)
- Large $1,586.98 (3 meal and snacks per day)
- Summer Off-Campus Plan $410.93 (1 meal or snack per day)
Duke Kunshan students can also apply for summer housing via the Duke Housing Portal
Duke Kunshan students will be assigned to Epworth.

Students who are involved in:
- A local co-curricular program
- Working in Durham as a research assistant,
- Working in Durham as an intern
can apply to live on campus this summer through Conference and Event Services (CES).
