Student Wellness Center

The Duke Student Wellness Center is a central hub for student well-being, offering a comprehensive range of services that support the physical, mental, and emotional health of all Duke students. Through a coordinated network of programs such as Student Health, Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), DuWell, DukeReach, and Gender Violence Education & Outreach (GVEO), the Wellness Center empowers students to thrive both personally and academically. Whether you need medical care, mental health support, wellness education, or help navigating a difficult situation, the Student Wellness Center is here to help.

The Student Wellness Center is located at 305 Towerview Drive, West Campus, next to Penn Pavilion.

The Student Health Fee covers a wide range of services provided by Student Health if medically indicated and rendered by its providers. This includes acute and chronic illness care, routine exams, gynecological services, allergy shots, in‑house lab tests, nutrition counseling, wellness programming, mental health services through CAPS, and sexual violence support.

Services excluded from the fee include X‑rays and imaging, prescription medications, most in‑office procedures, specialty care (e.g. dermatology or endocrinology), contraceptives, dental care, most lab tests, and immunizations.

Yes. All enrolled Duke students must either enroll in the SMIP or submit a proof of alternate insurance waiver every year, even if your insurance doesn't change. International students (F-1/J-1) are required to participate and cannot waive out

North Carolina State Law (General Statutes §130A 152–157) requires that all students entering college present a certificate of immunization that documents that the student has received all immunizations required by law. While your state or country of origin may have different immunization requirements, you must comply with North Carolina laws and Duke requirements.

DuWell promotes wellness through programming like Moments of Mindfulness, alcohol and drug education, sexual health and overall risk reduction efforts across campus.

If you or someone else is facing a non‑emergency concern (e.g. mental health, academic stress, housing, physical health), DukeReach offers case management services, connection to resources, and follow‑up.

GVEO’s mission is to create a community free from gender violence by fostering a culture of consent, respect, accountability, and support. They empower students through education, awareness, primary prevention programming, referrals, consultation, and risk reduction strategies. Their approach encourages active student participation and aims to foster lasting cultural change across individual, relational, and community levels

Simply drop in or call 919‑660‑1000 (Mon–Fri, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.). You’ll meet with a CAPS staff member to discuss your goals and develop a care plan.

CAPS offers individual counseling, psychiatric services, group therapy, and referrals to community providers.

Yes. CAPS offers various therapy and discussion groups. Pre-group screening is required and can be scheduled by calling CAPS.
