1. Students and families will arrive at their scheduled time.
2. Volunteers will help unload your car. A family member needs to stay at the car at all times.
3. After unloading, the family must move the car immediately to the Science Drive Garage on West Campus. A shuttle will bring you back to East Campus.
4. The student must go to Brodie Gym for their essential items (including room keys).
5. The student/family can begin to unpack, settle in, and make other necessary stops around campus.

Our Move-In Day windows are scheduled based on the restricted traffic flow on East Campus and the volume of cars that can be on East Campus at any given point. For that reason, we will not accommodate anyone arriving early. Likewise, each residence hall will be locked until the respective time, and students will not be able to access their room keys until their respective times. We have hundreds of volunteers on campus to support you and help unload your vehicle during your respective move-in window. In order to accommodate the 1,700 students moving in, we ask that you only come to East Campus during your two-hour window.

East Campus will reopen to traffic at 3:30 p.m. on Move-In Day. If you miss your window, you will not be able to drive onto East Campus until 3:30 p.m. Keep in mind, no volunteers will be there to support you after your scheduled move-in window either, and Brodie Gym will close at 3:30 p.m. Brodie Gym is where you will receive your essential items.

Duke has planned an extraordinary Move-In Day experience for all families. After moving-in, we invite you to join us for the following events:

• Dinner on the Quad is from 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. in front of the Duke Chapel. Join us for a feast of southern favorites including chicken, BBQ, and all the ‘fixins (side dishes). Dietary accommodations will be provided. This is a time to relax with your family, appreciate the fact that you’ve arrived at Duke, and soak in the scenery of West Campus. We kindly encourage the following seating times:
  • Move In Window #1: 4:00 p.m.
  • Move In Window #2: 5:00 p.m.
  • Move In Window #3: 6:00 p.m.
• Duke Athletics invites you to stop by Clocktower Quad (West Campus) on your way to the Family Farewell and collect your gift! Each member of the Class of 2030 will receive a customized Duke football jersey. Jerseys will be distributed during the Dinner on the Quad, 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.!
• The Family Farewell will start at 7:00 p.m. in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Join a celebration of the Class of 2030 and a Family Farewell. Families should plan to say farewell before, as students will depart during the program for their RA Floor Meetings. We invite families to join us afterwards for a family reception in the Hall of Honor at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Parking is available at the Science Drive Garage (SDG) on West Campus (3100 Cameron Blvd. Durham, NC 27708). Directions to this location were included with the move-in information students received on July 29. Continuous shuttles will run from East Campus to Science Drive Garage and back until 5:00 p.m. East Campus will reopen to traffic and limited parking at 3:30 p.m.

We ask that families plan for their cars to be parked in the Science Drive Garage prior to the Family Farewell, as this is the primary parking location for Cameron Indoor Stadium (where the day ends). Minimal transportation to East Campus will be available to families at the end of the day.

Duke has two campuses: East and West. East Campus is where students will live in their first year and where their items will be unloaded at move-in. West Campus is where you’ll park for the remainder of the day and where the evening events will be hosted.

Due to the extremely limited space on East Campus, only one car will be allowed on East Campus to assist with the student’s move-in during the assigned window. The parking placard, which students received from HRL on July 29, will need to be displayed at all times on East Campus. East Campus will re-open at 3:30 p.m. should a student/family need to drop off additional supplies at their dorm later in the evening. No additional move-in assistance will be available during this time.

East Campus Classroom Building (1356 Campus Dr.) – Classroom #106–137. Pick-up hours are as follows:

• Monday (8/10) – Thursday (8/13): 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
• Friday (8/14): 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
• Saturday (8/15): 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Any packages that have not arrived by Wednesday, August 12, or that aren't picked up during these windows, will move into Duke's standard campus mail process. Students/families should be prepared to carry their own packages to their residence halls.

Mailbox keys will be located in the same location listed above. After checking in at the Classroom Building, students will receive their mailbox key and can collect any packages that arrived before their move-in date.

University Shipping is a student-run shipping company that delivers students belongings to campus on Move-In Day. University Shipping will be located behind Baldwin Auditorium during Move-In Day and will deliver student packages/belongings during their assigned Move-In Window. Families will not have access to those items prior to Move-In Windows.

All first-year students are required to visit Brodie Gym after moving in on Move-In Day. Only students are permitted to enter Brodie Gym. If any student has an approved earlier arrival, they too will need to visit Brodie on Saturday, August 15.

Brodie Gym will be open during each of the Move-In windows, and volunteers will stay until 3:30 p.m. to answer any questions. The following offices will be present in Brodie:

• Housing & Residence Life (HRL)
  • You will receive your room key and additional information from HRL.
• DukeCard
  • Make sure to submit your DukeCard photo before Move-In Day. Click here to read more on the photo specifications and submit your photo. Your DukeCard is critical to eating on campus and access to campus building. Please make sure you submit this photo in advance so you can have your DukeCard on day one of your Duke experience!
• DuWell
  • Receive the Duke BluePrint, a calendar and journal for well-being in your first semester.
• Experiential Orientation
  • Check-in with your specific Experiential Orientation Project, confirm your signed waiver, and receive swag!
• Duke Office of Information Technology (OIT)
  • If you ordered a laptop through DukeLIFE, OIT will assist you with set up.
  • Other students can pick up their computers from Duke Technology Center before classes begin.

• There will be a hospitality tent that includes an information desk, emergency services, banks, laundrymen services, and more vendors.
• Duke Campus Mail will have a temporary package pick-up location in the Classroom Building on Move-In Day, 8:00 a.m - 4:00 p.m. Students will need to bring an ID to claim their packages.
• The Marketplace is our East Campus dining hall which will have breakfast and lunch available for purchase.
• Any linens that were purchased from Duke Stores will be available in your residence hall room.

The Move-In Day Schedule is our only scheduled event for parents/families. In July and August, we offered webinars for families to learn more about their student’s upcoming experience.

Please note that families should plan to say farewell before the Family Farewell. After this event, students will be busy with their orientation programs. We invite families to join us for a brief reception after the Family Farewell before departing campus.
